Abstract
The "Systems Architecture Lab" (SAL) in Intel Labs brings together researchers working across a broad range of disciplines including processor system ISA extensions, platform interconnect and I/O architecture, power and energy efficiency, and system software (OS/VMM). In this talk, I'll give an overview of selected SAL projects spanning these domains, including Light Peak (a new I/O architecture built around optical interconnect), recent new hardware support for virtualization (Intel(r) VT), and explorations into heterogeneous system design.
Biography:
Rich Uhlig is an Intel Fellow and Director of Systems Architecture in Intel Labs. During his career at Intel, Rich has led the definition of multiple generations of Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel(r) VT), and is currently focusing on energy-efficient computing for datacenters. Prior to joining Intel in 1996, Rich held post-doctoral fellowships at the European national research labs of Germany, Greece, and France, where he where he worked on advancing simulation technology and on architectural support for modern operating-system design. Rich earned the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1995.
